How to apply
The application/selection process for 2023/24 will start on October 1st, 2023.
Application to our doctoral program is a six-step process, administered through our online application portal as outlined below.
- Check whether you are eligible to apply to our doctoral program (more).
- Register at our online application portal between October 01 and November 15 (link TBA).
- Login at application portal and name/invite two referees.
- Fill out application form.
- Upload all required documents (more).
- Submit your application no later than November 15!

As soon as your referees submit a letter of recommendation, we will send you a confirmatory email. We will also confirm successful submission of your application through email.
Please keep in mind that we can only accept complete applications submitted through our online application portal. Please do not send applications to the coordination office via postal services or email. We are not able to accept those applications and they will not be returned.

Time line of application/selection process 2023/2024:
- Online application platform opens on October 01, 2023.
- Closing date for submission of your application is November 15, 2023 (24:00 Central European Time).
- Letters of invitation to online panel interviews or letters of rejection typically will be emailed by beginning of January, 2024.
- Panel interviews will be held online in mid-January.
- Shortlisted candidates who passed the panel interviews will be invited to Munich end of February 2024.
- We expect selection to be completed by April 2024.
- Accepted candidates should start their thesis research no later than October 01, 2024 (which will give enough time to apply for a visa if required).
A list of faculty who plan to recruit a student in the upcoming round of recruitment can be found here soon. In the application form, you will be asked to name up to five groups from the list that you find most interesting.
